A really lovely quick dessert all year round which adults and children both love is a fruit compote. It’s so simple – just place equal quantities of sugar and water in a saucepan, one cup if serving 4, two cups if serving a larger amount. Bring to the boil, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Boil for just two minutes and turn off the heat. Drop in your fruit and leave to cool. Chill and serve.
This is a simple idea for kids parties – simply thread fruit onto skewers. You need fruit which is solid so that it will stay on the skewer; but not fruit that will brown (like apples). Strawberries, grapes, melon and pineapple are great. Here we’ve added marshmallows for an extra treat.
